The picture is often far a bad one due to too little or too much light, wrong colors or unnecessary information. But the message is moving and inspiring for me. And that must be painted ...

My father died almost five years ago. So far all attempts to paint his portrait targeted the end of his life, but a person is more than the sum of its parts and that is why I chose to paint him in a period in which he was in the prime of his life. He is probably depicted here more as son, brother and father, and less as grandfather and great-grandfather, but it is who he was...
